Ayahausca

How is a dieta different than simply taking Ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca’s primary role is opening you to connect with the plants. It by itself is not the main source of healing and inspiration. Instead it acts as a conduit connecting you to the plants your dieting and the plants brought into the ceremony through the Maestro’s Icaros.

A good analogy for this is that Ayahuasca works as the hardware, which the rest of the work operates on. Dieting a different plant acts as overlaying a separate software onto the experience. As you diet different plants you’ll notice each one imparts it’s own unique energy into the ceremony. To learn more about this check out our page, Master Plants

I don't want to have an intense experience, how much should I take?

Every person reacts to the medicine differently, some only need a little while others might need several glasses. Thus we start everyone off with a small half ounce portion. After that we slowly increase by half ounce measures until the retreatant reaches their optimal dose.

What happens if I have my period during the retreat?

The Shipibo believe that when a woman is menstruating she contains strong power that can interfere with people in the dieta. This time is best used for self reflection, and it’s best not to interact with other guests until you’re finished.

If it falls on a ceremony night Celinda will sing Icaros to close your body, and you can wait until your period is done to start drinking again.  Please notify us when it starts, and Celinda can help provide plant medicines to shorten it.

When do I start taking Ayahuasca?

The day after you arrive we will give you a lemon grass purge to prepare you for your dieta. Following that you’ll take your given plant for a set number of days. Depending on which plant you take, and the length of your stay, you’ll start taking Ayahuasca between 3-5 days after starting your plant dieta.

Can I do two master plants in one month?

We limit each month to one master plant for two reasons. The first primary reason is that it allows you to fully connect with the plant. The longer the dieta the deeper the bond.

The second reason is that we want each retreatant to get the full worth of their stay. To switch to another plant dieta we’ll have to end your current one, and then wait a few days before you start taking the next one. That means a one month stay would have drastically less Ayahuasca ceremonies.

When do the ceremonies start and how long do they last?

Our ceremonies usually start at 9:00 PM, but sometimes they might start a little later. They typically last between 4-5 hours, and when you feel comfortable you can return to your tambo. If you need more time to process or ground yourself feel free to stay in the ceremony room for as long as you need.

The Center

How do I pay and reserve my place?

We operate on a cash basis for the bulk of the payment. However to reserve your spot, we ask for a small, nonrefundable down payment ranging between $100-$150 sent over PayPal. Once we receive that and your flight information we’ll reserve your spot.

Will I have my own room?

Most of our retreatants will have their own private room within a shared tambo. However, if you’d like to share it with a friend or family that is okay too. When you reach out to us we’ll let you know about our availability. For more information check out the page, Our Center.

Will there be internet?

We do not offer wifi or internet at our center, but we find the medicine works best without technological distractions. However, if you need to send a message or contact a loved one we can arrange that for you.

What language do the Maestros speak?

Celinda, her son, and her family all speak Shipibo amongst themselves, and Spanish with our facilitators. Luckily, we have a native English speaking facilitator with us that can translate between you and the family.

Where is your facilitator from?

Our facilitator Nathan was born in Germany, but grew up in the United States. He’s gone through several dietas himself and is quite knowledgeable about the medicine. He also understands most German, but has difficulty speaking it.

Travel

What airport should I fly into?

The best airport to fly into is Pucallpa. We are located one hour north of the city in the Shipibo community of San Francisco.

It’s usually easiest to get a flight into Lima and then book a regional flight from Lima to Pucallpa. These regional flights usually cost between $50-$80

Will you pick me up from the airport?

We pick up all our guests directly from the Pucallpa airport. Please give us your flight details and notify us of any changes to the flight schedule. Additionally, we kindly ask you to book a flight with the arrival being no later than 9:00 PM.

What should I bring?

We recommend packing a week’s worth of light, comfortable, and breathable clothes:

  • Daytime- shorts, tees, and tanktops
  • Nighttime – 1-2 pairs of light pants and long sleeve shirts (for the bugs)
  • Nighttime – One sweater for the occasional cooler night
